César Baldaccini was a French sculptor, a representative of New Realism. After studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Marseille (1935-9), he studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris (1943-8). He worked under the influence of abstractionism, surrealism, then developed his own style close to expressionism; some of his compositions take the shape of unusual insects, animals, winged figures.
