Eugeniusz Zak was a Polish painter and draftsman of Jewish origin, a representative of Neoclassicism. By some researchers he is considered to be one of the most outstanding Polish painters of the first half of the 20th century. He began his artistic education in Paris at the École des Beaux-Arts and Académie Colarossi under Albert Besnard. In the French capital he became friends with Leopold Gottlieb, Roman Kramsztyk, Mela Muter, and Eli Nadelman. He exhibited his compositions there in the Autumn Salon and in the Salon of Independents. In 1911 the Druet Gallery held a solo exhibition of this painter. Most of his works are painted from his imagination, Zak very rarely painted from nature. In his works one can notice a fairy-tale character, inspiration with Renaissance and a kind of melancholy.
