Stanisław Wyspiański was a Polish artist involved in many fields of art, and is sometimes referred to as the fourth Polish bard. After graduating from high school, he studied under Jan Matejko himself at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow. In his short life of 38 years (1869-1907), the master amassed an impressive oeuvre, dealing with many fields of art. He wrote 19 dramas, 5 operas, created countless drawings and paintings, and designed 36 stained-glass quatrefoils for St Mary's Church in Cracow alone. He is one of the most recognisable figures of Young Poland, the drama Wesele (The Wedding) is still included in the school reading canon.
