The mystery of Peter Bruegel the Elder's engraving. Perhaps Peter Bruegel the Elder's painting was an inspiration for the work of other artists. It is no secret that painters such as Albert Dűrer often painted landscapes.

Scottish rocks in an engraving by the legendary painter

A 16th-century drawing by Peter Bruegel the Elder hides many secrets. One of them is the first engraving of the Scottish Bass rocks painted by the artist. It is possible that the Dutch artist had never visited Scotland, but knew what it looked like through numerous drawings and canvases by other artists. Bruegel's work in the Fleming collection only shows a fragment of the Bass rocks, but it is one of the landmark discoveries in art history.
