Contemporary and ancient art are significantly different from each other at first glance. Artists from years ago created differently than they do now, not only because of different techniques. What made the difference between today's artworks and old paintings, sculptures or drawings?

New styles and techniques

Artworks of contemporary and old art differ from each other mainly due to the opportunities that have opened up for present artists. In antiquity and the Middle Ages, they could only rely on naturally sourced dyes and materials. Paints and canvas or wood were expensive and hard to come by. Nowadays, materials for painters or sculptors are much better available and the choice is wide. Thanks to this, many new techniques and styles have been created that make contemporary art include previously non-existent categories.

Photography, computer graphics, and other forms of modern art have a shorter history than painting or sculpture. Therefore, they cannot be compared with each other through the ages, but only in the last few decades. Thus, the differences between old and modern art are even more noticeable. New forms give artists the opportunity to show the world in many additional perspectives. Diversity in this respect makes it possible to emphasize the artist's vision even better and reach audience groups that are looking for an alternative to the old art.

Changes in the perception of art

Art accompanies man from the very beginning of civilization. Thanks to it, important events are presented, spaces are decorated and various ideas are revealed. Ancient Greek art showed the perfection of the human body and emphasized the beauty of its proportions, while Impressionism looked for ways to capture the transience of the natural world in images. Contemporary art has virtually no boundaries. Instead, it transcends them and balances a fine line between kitsch and good taste. He often breaks with conventions and breaks social taboos.

Modern art does not lack elements associated with pornography and violence. Artists use them to encourage their audience to reflect and discuss. Crossing borders means that viewers are forced to verify their worldview and seek answers to questions related to contemporary social, economic and even political problems. Contemporary artists also often work on the street, organizing happenings, painting murals or making graffiti. In this way, they even reach those people who give up communing with art in its traditional form.
