Roman Opałka is a Polish conceptual artist, painter and graphic designer. In 1956, he graduated from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. In the 1990s, his works were presented at the Venice Biennale in the Polish pavilion. The most famous work of the artist is the series "OPALKA 1965/1 - ∞", in which Opałka painted consecutive numbers with white paint, symbolically representing the passage of time. In 2009, the artist was awarded the Gold Medal for "Meritorious Service to Culture - Gloria Artis". Opałka's art is highly valued on the art market. It can be found in the collections of, among others, the Guggenheim Museum and the Pompidou Centre.
