A fundamental feature of figurative painting is its apparent reference to nature. A figurative painter can "take on" many different themes, for example, portrait, landscape or still life. The opposite of figurative art is abstractionism, "non-representational art" or "non-figurative art".

Figurative art, the special place of the portrait

Portraits have always occupied a special place in the history of art; a well-crafted representation of a person can carry an emotional charge or even a reflection on the passing of time (especially in the case of representations of the elderly). Such work is, moreover, usually the product of two personalities - that of the painter and that of the model.

There are many interesting portraits on offer at Artbidy, one of which is the composition entitled "Ewa" by Katarzyna Belczyk (dimensions: 50 x 70 cm). In this case, it is a double portrait, but the 'main' role is played by the eponymous Eve. The unsealed door and the woman's mysterious gaze leave the viewer with many questions.

Fascinating landscape

The history of the landscape as a separate painting genre starts quite late, only in Dutch painting in the 2nd half of the 16th century. Prior to that, the landscape was primarily a background for various mythological, historical or religious representations. An interesting type of representation is certainly the veduta, i.e. a landscape depicting a city scene. An interesting example of the same in Artbidy's offer is the painting entitled "Lost City" by Andrzej Cybura (dimensions: 70 x 60 cm). In the painting, the viewer will see a city from a dream rather than a representation of a real urban scene, but this seems to make the representation even more interesting.

A beautiful still life

According to the dictionary, a still life is a painting composition depicting small objects, fruit or animals that have been killed. However, still lives with floral arrangements are often the most desirable. Not surprisingly, one of the world's most famous paintings is "Sunflowers" painted by Vincent van Gogh. A beautiful example of this painting genre in the Artbidy range is "Peonies" painted by Zbigniew Kopania. The painting measures 80 x 100 cm and was painted in pastel colours.
