Koch & Bergfeld
Name
Koch & Bergfeld

Koch & Bergfeld began its operations in 1829 when Gottfried Koch opened a goldsmith workshop in Bremen, Germany. Soon after, Ludwig Bergfeld joined him, and together they founded the company Koch & Bergfeld. Initially focused on craftsmanship, in 1865, the company began implementing serial production methods, allowing for faster manufacturing. In 1885, the company expanded by opening a new 700 m² factory, employing 100 workers.

By 1910, Koch & Bergfeld became one of the leading producers of silver tableware, adding a rolling mill for Alpacca silver to their facility, which enabled the production of silver-plated tableware. Between 1910 and 1914, the company exported its products to Russia, Hungary, Colombia, and Scandinavia.

After difficult war and post-war years, in 1965, Dr. Gottfried Koch took over the management of the company and returned to traditional silver craftsmanship, focusing on the production of tableware. The company underwent modernization and was acquired by the Villeroy & Boch group in 1989. In 1994, the production of silver tableware was moved to a new company, Hansen Koch & Bergfeld, although the company continued to produce jewelry.

Since 2005, when Florian Blume took over leadership, the company moved its headquarters to Bremen’s Überseestadt, continuing to blend modern techniques with traditional craftsmanship. Koch & Bergfeld gained international recognition, particularly in trophy production, and in 2017, it acquired exclusive rights to produce replicas of the German national football team's famous trophies. Today, the company remains one of the leading silverware manufacturers in Germany.
